Day 3: Mid-November Rain (The Cleanse)

7 Days of Late Autumn | Day 3: Mid-November Rain

It doesn't fall; it drapes.

A heavy, rhythmic curtain tapping against the glass,

blurring the streetlights into bleeding halos of gold.

The earth smells rich, damp, and old—

the scent of soil drinking its fill before the freeze.

The gutters are choked with sodden leaves,

and the rain washes the dust from the slate roofs.

Let it come down.

Let it wash away the remnants of a hectic July.

Some things need to be drowned

before they can sleep.
